I took on pepper from Essex Guinea pig rat and rabbit rescue about a month ago to get her out of her hutch and try to socialise her. She was very territorial and attacked anyone going into her hutch.
Well. She lived in my bathroom and as time went on she didn't really improve. She'd go for my housemates and my ankles when we went in and was still pretty untouchable.
I had her out in the garden run one day and my bunny Beatrice was free ranging. They met at the bars of the run and sniffed each other for a good long time. No tails went up and there was no aggression. I decided that if maybe there was a chance she could bond in with Karl and Beatrice then she could stay with me, even if she was always a mean bitey bun!
Here's some photos of their bonding journey
In the run before she met her friends
First meeting, they spent the day in here
Then they moved to a small bathroom
Cuddled up in the run!
Causing havoc!
Pepper letting me get up close and personal for a shot!
She is a changed rabbit. You can walk around in their room with no problem. No lunging, grunting or boxing. She loves getting grooms from her friends. Karl and Beatrice are fine with having a new friend and it's done pepper so much good. She even enjoys the odd head rubs now! I'm so happy for her! Although not my wallet as now I'll be shelling out for her adoption fee!
