Stirton

New Kit
I'm looking to buy a mini lop. I live in east lancashire so breeder anywhere in lancs or north/ West Yorkshire would be good. Can anyone help please.

You may find that most people here would suggest a rescue rather than a breeder? As there are already lots of unwanted bunnies looking for homes.

Also, you would have to get two bunnies as they need company. Rabbits are extremely social and need a grooming partner.

I, too, would recommend a Rescue. Rabbits are usually so much happier in pairs, so a pair of already bonded rabbits from a rescue would be what I would do.

LOTS of mini and dwarf lops all waiting for lovely new homes in rescue -

have you checked out the rabbit rehome rescue part of this website? - there are SO many lovely rabbits on there.

If you go to a rescue you will have more choice as to age and colour and the rescue will also be able to give a recent health and behavioural history. Additionally the rescue will probably be able to bond your potential rabbit with a friend which will save you a lot of stress especially if you are new to rabbits. I think you also need to decide if rabbits are the pet for you, they are a specialised and oft underestimated species that need a lot more care, veterinary treatment and dedication than many people realise.

You can find out more about rescue centres local to you by using the Rabbit Rehome search option.

This page has some useful links about rabbit care.

 I'm from east lancs too, have you tried looking at Bleakholt rescue or RSPCA at Altham? They have loads of bunnies including lops and baby buns last time I looked, and they come vaccinated, neutered and health checked, which will save you a lot of money having to do all that yourself. They also handle them while they're in rescue so they're usually more used to people.

My pair came from a local breeder, they were missing parts of their ears and feet and the conditions they were living in were not nice. They've had health problems too down the line which the vet thinks could be as a result of inbreeding. I really wouldn't advise going to a breeder.

Hi, welcome to RU. As many people have mentioned, there are so many bunnies in rescues awaiting wonderful new forever homes.....perhaps worth considering....especially as unless there is a really good reason, the bunnies will be both neutered and vaccinated...all usually included in the cost of adopting them. Oh almost forgot, fully health checked too.....oooh and no doubt their personalities will also have been assessed so finding the perfect match for you and the perfect environment for your future bunny/ bunnies.

I've adopted rescue bunnies for many years now and to be honest, it really does help knowing as much of their background history as possible...and that they are fit and healthy.

Whatever you decide though, feel free to ask as many questions on here as we all had to start from somewhere.

Best of luck.

hi and welcome to the forum, im sure you will learn lots if you stick around, I also suggest considering a rescue, there are quite a few in the north west and yes bleakholt have quite a few lops in at the moment to, we went up the other week to donate some food to them

I can't help with a recommendation for a breeder in your area as I'm down south but even if I could I wouldn't.

I also support rescue. I have a rescue and almost a third of the bunnies here for rehoming at the moment are mini lops and nearly all of them came intially from breeders (I always find out where the previous owner has got them from). So, the point I guess I'm really making is that you can adopt a wide range of bunnies from rescue and many of them will be pure bred minis if that is what you have your heart set on. Please adopt as you will save more than one life. You give a home to a pair of minis from a rescue helping those two, and then you make space for more to be helped.

Good luck with finding the perfect pair for you in rescue and we will all look forward to photos.

This might be worth a read if you are on Facebook.

Welcome to the forum

I'm afraid I'm not from Lancashire so can't help with your question. But if you have questions about anything else please do ask :D Getting a rabbit can seem very simple but looking after them can be quite complex, so please ask if you need any advice or have any questions. There are sections of the forums for Diet, Housing, Behaviour and Bonding, and Health, among others, to help you navigate your way around the threads.

If you get stuck with anything, please feel free to send myself or any other Forum Buddies a PM (personal message). The Forum Buddies have got their names in green.

Wherever you decide to get your bunnies from, I hope you stick around and share your experiences and photos of your new bunnies.

Mini lops

Hi and thank you all so much for the replies. I'm actually not new to rabbits and have kept them for years. We sadly had to have one of our dwarf lops put down on Monday and my daughter would really like a mini now as a companion for Mango, our remaining dwarf. He is 3 and neutered.

I have been looking at rescue and there is actually a mini lop rescue in Yorkshire, but the ones they have at the moment all seem to have nibbling issues, which my daughter may struggle with. I will try Bleakholt as haven't tried there.

Will let you know what happens.
