I wish the specialist vet wasn't so far away :( there's no point taking her to my usual vet, they've examined her loads of times and never find anything wrong. But she isn't right :( she has barely been eating pellets or greens for a couple of weeks now, although some days she has almost a normal amount, then the next day hardly any :? She is a large New Zealand rabbit, she is overweight (even with not eating much, which makes me worry that there's something sinister growing inside her). She still eats grass and hay, although not as much as she used to. She spends a lot of time resting/sleeping, although does still have bursts of energy when she runs around and looks happy. She likes eating dried brambles and other forage. Drinking less. Poos half the size they used to be, darker and drier. She often looks like she's struggling to pass droppings and urine, she has been like that for a long time. She has a history of unexplained stomach pain episodes, presenting like gas - normally passes after a couple of hours. And the last few days, she's been constantly lifting her front paw slightly before putting it back down. I have looked at it and can't see anything. She did this once before and had a sore toe, but her toes look fine now. She is already on daily metacam for suspected arthritis. Any thoughts on any of this very welcome.

How far are you from a specialist?

Can someone help get her there?

I can get her there myself, it's just about an hour away, a long way in the car for a stressed bunny :( and if i was wanting her to have any tests, she would have to be there by 9am, which means travelling to Manchester in rush hour... Adding almost another hour to the journey. It's so difficult deciding what's best :( i just went out to say goodnight, and she decided to gobble up all her tea. It's just really strange :?

depending on the date, are welcome to stop off here to give her some rest and binky time in our runaround before her appointment if woud like? might break up the journey for her.

Has the vet checked her heart?

Perhaps you could take her to the specialist and see what they say? If they want her in early for tests, would they not be able to take her in the evening before, so she didn't have to travel in the morning? Perhaps they could do some tests straight away?

Her heart sounds fine, according to my own vet... But they could be wrong i guess :? I have decided that i should definitely take her, but i can't take a day off work until next week as other people are off this week :( i don't think there's any point taking her to my usual vets, they won't have a clue :( i just hope i can keep her eating.

I realise it's going to be stressful for her whichever way you look at it, but perhaps you could take her to the specialist the evening before and they can do the tests first thing the next morning?

To be honest, it sounds quite mysteriously worrying and I would want to know what on earth was going on ..

It does sound worrying. I hope you can find a solution. It's unfortunate the distance makes a specialist vet trip difficult, but if your own vets have done all they can I think I would definitely try to arrange an appointment for Daisy as soon as you can manage it.

Lots of vibes for Daisy.

My own bunnies are showing a kind of slow down in their eating too. Could it not be just the change of season? i.e. no longer winter so no need to stock up?
Mimzy also does the paw lifting...left front foot. If Daisy has arthritis she may be shifting one that is either taking all her weight, to rest it from time to time, or that foot may be bothering her in particular. My vet also treated Mimzy for sore toes but that's cleared up and he still favors that foot. :(
I hope that Daisy will be okay and it's something easily sorted. These bunnies know how to peg our worry meters!

All mine seem to be less keen on their food too at the moment - pellets are not all getting eaten straight away, and they are not diving into hay as they would normally do. They are still very enthusiatic for treats and their supper bowl of dried herbs - all have had their teeth checked fairly recently. If it was just one of them I would be worried but as it is all five I am less so. As they are also getting more time out on the grassI guess are filling up on this. I am just keeping a close watch on poo output.

I have also noticed both Rosie and Hollie paw occassionally paw lifting. Why is is that anything even slightly out of the ordinary with bunnies causes so much worry :(

Thanks for all the replies folks  i am really pleased to report that Daisy is tons better today, which makes me think it is weather related... It's been really warm but today was much cooler. She actually came running for her breakfast, and her tea, and her supper! :D she does seem to have restricted movement though, she must just have bad arthritis :( but I'm so relieved she's eating properly again!

What a relief that she's doing better. :)
I've never seen any animal react to weather like bunnies do. Even subtle shifts in barometric pressure seem to greatly affect them. I wonder if wildies have the same issues as domestics?
