has anyone used nuvet in peterborough?

Thank you Jane. He has gone down hill really quickly. He was covered in poo this morning. It was from his bum to his neck and it was very smelly. I tried to clean him up with baby wipes but ended up having to bath him. I know that bathing is not usually recommend but there was no other way. He has a few fur mats where he cannot keep himself clean. Gypsy used to groom him. I had been grooming him but didn't do a good enough job  his fur is very thick. I may have to ask the vet to clip it so he stays a bit more clean and comfy. I think he may have arthritis and maybe cannot clean himself. I have no Iidea why he had poo all over him. It is a big big worry. He sometimes gets a messy bum, but I have never seen anything like it was this morning. He looked like a bad neglect case, even though I know he wasn't like it yesterday.
He is very quiet and not right. His poo isn't runny now but it is really small. He isn't right at all

I haven't used it myself (I see a bunny specialist in Thurlby) but I *think* it is the one my Alfie went to when he had his headtilt, the breeder took him there when he was only 6 weeks old or so. They dealt with him appropriately, gave him the right meds etc, and the breeder didn't have any complaints.

Really hope Storm is OK x

I have never been to nuvet -

we live 10 mins from peterborough but always take our rabbits (all 34 of them) to the rabbit specialist vets in Cambridge - (Cambridge vet Group - Cherry Hinton Rd 01223 249331)

Ian Cope is THE exotics vet - trained at the Edinburgh vets (the one that gets asterixed when we mention it D**K) and now a referral vet with all the exotics qualifications and a consulting table manner which is just SO understanding, whilst Jill Pearson is also very rabbity indeed (and does birds as well and tortoises) and Karen Stubbington is also good -

I know its tempting to stay local but really for the security of knowing your rabbits are getting the best diagnosis, onward care and most up to date treatment I would always go to a specialist vet especially when it sounds like something more complex..

TBH it often works out much cheaper (and much better for the rabbit) in the long run anyway.

It takes me 40-45 mins to get there from where I am (close to Stilton)

PS If you do not have a car then they are very near the station - or come with me when I have to go in and collect my Willow tmw!!

Sometimes staying local is the only option when you have a young baby and school run to do.

I hope storm is ok xx

Just trying to be helpful . . . the OP is obviously worried about the bun and worried about the vets. I just offered an alternative of a vet I know is excellent. I have had recent experience of someone who decided to 'stay local' (not anywhere near here) and now regrets it.

I realise that it can be tricky - I had to juggle work meetings, dropping off/picking up partner at station, foraging for 34 buns, and driving to Cambridge and back today (as well as dealing with builders here, do some writing to show editor I was indeed working, catch up with weekend work emails etc etc) - but actually having a vet thats is good can save you time and money in the long run.

Hopefully Nuvet will be excellent and the OP and most importantly, Storm. will be delighted with them and well and happy again very very soon and will not need to even think about different vets.:D:thumb:

I hope the Vet has been able to help. Still sending lots of vibes for him xx

Thank you for all vibes and well wishes. Thank you also to parsnipbun for your recomendation. Your vets sound amazing and we all know how hard a good bunny vet can be to find.

I think I have found a good one too :D not only was there a " rabbit friendly," poster thingy on the door the staff all knew what they were talkIing about. The lady I saw was very knowledgeable. I also over heard some excellent advice given to another bunny owner.

Storm isn't as bad as I feared. It looks as though he does have some arthritis and is being given metacam. His fur mats were clipped whilst he was conscious as they didn't want to put an almost 9 year old French lop under if they didn't have to. His bum problem could be due to his arthritis and maybe be cause he is in a bit of pain with it. I thought his eyes looked bad but apparently they are fine. Gypsy used to clean them for him so they used to look perfect.

Storm being quiet could be because of arthritis and maybe the fur mat was pulling a bit. I feel awful about his fur  he just has so much of it and can't manage it. Gypsy used to help him. I need to help him more now. I was told that the vet had seen bunnies in much worse of a state and less than half his age. I still feel like I failed him though

I have more confidence in this vets. I didn't have to tell them what treat ment I thought was best. I was told what was best for storm. He wasn't " just a rabbit, " they had time for him

You haven't failed him, you have sought help for him and now I am sure he feels more comfortable. I am glad the new Vet is Bunny Friendly. Hopefully the Metacam will soon start to help his stiff joints xx

I've just seen this. I'm so pleased Storm is ok and you definitely haven't failed him. Failing him would have been leaving him like that, not doing all you can to help him xx

Thank you xxx

I think I panicked a lot when I saw storm covered in poo. He also had trouble getting up and I thought his back legs were giving way like they did with gypsy. He was just slipping on the vinyl floor where there was no vet bed.
I have never had fur mats on my bunnies before. I was a bit shocked and felt awful. It wasn't as bad as I thought. I still wish I could have seen it sooner.

Storm is so much brighter this morning
