Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Eye drop tips

Alpha Buck
Has anyone got any tips for administering eye drops on their own? I'd love to utilise my OH but he'll be at work and they are twice a day which means I'll have to do one on my own! I know about wrapping in a towel etc but thought someone might have more specific tips - Penfold hates being handled!!!

Thanks in advance :)

You could try putting him in a Pet carrier with rolled up towels either side of him so he cant turn his back on you. Then after giving lots of gentle nose rubs and talking calmly to him you could try gently applying the eye drops. Then offer him a tasty treat xx

My buns have always been pretty easy when giving them drops, i pick them up in a towel and take them to my bed, sit on the edge, and place them facing away from me but sat in my lap, i then lean over them slightly, wrap the towel around their front paws then hold one eye open with my left hand and come over them from the top with the drops, never a wriggle or a mess. Obviously lots of fusses at any possible chance ^_^
