Useless vet :(

Nic.

Warren Scout
I'm so annoyed at my ridiculous vet practice. It's hard for me to change vets because I don't drive and the new one is quite far away, plus i had a number of free consultations to use up at the last one so I wanted to stick with it as long as possible. I've given up and registered them somewhere new now.

They've been so unhelpful since I had my rabbits spayed. They sent both rabbits home without painkillers and wouldn't give me any when I asked, I had to keep taking Luna in for injections so she would have enough pain relief to eat. They also send Luna home after her op really congested and ill and since then her snuffles has been terrible. The first lot of antibiotics they gave me did nothing and were only for 10 days. When I took her back they said they'd made a mistake and given her half the strength they'd meant to which was why it hadn't worked  They also said I needed a more intensive course of Baytril for longer so I thought I was finally getting somewhere! But they'll only give me enough for 7 days at a time. If I want more I'm going to have to take her back for another consultation and then get more. They haven't even told me that she has snuffles, they're very vague all the time and very reluctant to explain what they're doing and what's wrong with her and I have no idea why. Before her spay she never suffered with it this much, I suspect her immune system must be quite low. So now I'm going to have to take her to a new vet to see if I can actually get her treated properly. URGH

I think that each vet practice should have a vet who has undertaken additional training in the care and treatment of rabbits - much as GP practices have doctors specialising in certain aspects of healt-care, such as minor ops and family planning.

how frustrating for you :( finding a good vet is so vital it's so annoying to be let down! i agree with babsie that it should be a criteria of every vet practice. i hope you find somewhere good soon and luna is feeling better soon!

I totally sympathise. Two weeks ago I lost my beautiful baby boy, Badger because it was the middle of the night & my ooh vet is about as much use as a chocolate teapot. Needless to say I have now swapped vets too.

That's horrible :( It's disheartening when Vets clearly don't know anything about bunnies but won't admit it. I'd much rather they say than stick with guess work!

how frustrating! im lucky i got recommended a good bunny vet- honey is there now for bloat- and although im still scared stiff of losing her, i know she is in the best hands. ive been to vets in the past where they keep chopping and changing their mind over whats wrong and it does your head in!
