Whiskers: straight vs crinkly

Just looking at Jane's pics of the beautiful Flynn, and at a lovely bunny in Jolleyes (which was so much worse than petsathome) who both had super straight whiskers

Waffles and DP are very crinkly.

Is it a genetic thing? Or are they damaged? Which is more common?

Rexes have crinkly whiskers.

They are mini rexes so that makes sense - thanks
It makes DP look a bit like an adorably soft fluffy walrus!!
