Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Caecels

Young Bun
Hello, I've noticed recently that my older rabbit seems to be having eyes that get a little discharge in them and that I never seem him eating his caecels (pardon the spelling if it is wrong)
I have bought him a vitamin supplement, which seems to be making him perk up a lot- I have a feeling that he may be cold (hence the runny eyes), so I was wondering. Is there any temporary way to keep him warmer before I redo his hutch (which will involved insulating it)
Thank you very much

Ps- I am certain it is not his teeth- he is happily munching and never shows any signs of discomfort when he is out and about or when I touch him around his jaw or face :)

is it just that you never see him eating his cecotrophs or are you finding uneaten ones? a snugglesafe heatpad would be good for keeping him warm, although i'm not sure that runny eyes are connected to being cold. as it's nothing urgent, just a niggling worry, you could take him along to the vet during rabbit awareness week next week for a free check up
