Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Quivering Lip

New Kit
Hello everyone, just wondered whether anyone has come across this before, or has any ideas. My 5 yr old housebun appears to have a constantly quivering/ twitching top lip on the left side only. It is not the same type of twitch as normal breathing or falling asleep. Everything else health and behaviour wise seems normal. It really is odd. Any suggestions welcome, thanks x:?

I've not come across it before, but just wondered how long it has been happening for? Also wondered if there was something in bunny's mouth, maybe tooth problems or ulcers? I know when I have a sore mouth, I'm always twitching it.

Thank you for your reply! I am wondering about dental issues. At the beginning of December she had a runny eye, and went off her food. Both issues cleared up fortunately, but the vet did wonder whether it was her molars. However this being the case, the vet basically said there would not be a lot they could do for her if it were molar issues.

Is this the case that molars cannot be operated on/ removed? I don't know if her reluctance was due to her being unable to perform trickery surgery in a bunny's small mouth or genuinely there is nothing that can be done. I did come away feeling all was lost if it ever did become a molar problem.

Are there such things as bunny dental specialists?

Thanks xxx

I don't have a lot of experience with tooth problems in buns, but it sounds to me like you need a vet who is a bit more rabbit savvy. I have a couple of buns who have had molars operated on, without any problem being mentioned :? .

Maybe you should start a new post "Rabbit savvy vet needed in ...." and your area. Someone might know a good vet nearby and you could get your bun checked over by them. There are a couple of other causes that it could be, but all would need bun to be seen by a good vet.

I hope you can get to the bottom of it x
