  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Help! Just noticed wound on buns face!

Phoebe

New Kit
Just got home and was giving him a fuss when I noticed a clump of hair was loose and there was a little wound underneath. He doesn't seem bothered and I'm hoping he's just cut himself on a bit of cardboard or rubbing his nose on the cage bars.

I'm just worried about him getting an abcess!

Does bun have a partner or do you have any idea how the wound could have happened? Anything sharp or something he could have got caught on?

make sure there is no fur inside the wound, you may need to wrap him in a towel and use tweezers, we had to do this when one of our pairs had a fight luckily willow is very placid and doesn't move and my oh has good eyesite and a steady hand.

that wound was a bite to the skin behind the eye on the head.
we kept it clean with lukewarm water and a bit of salt in it and popped to the vet the next day to make sure everything was all right.
because it was a bite wound for us we had antibiotics and some painkillers just to prevent any stasis.
hope wee man doesn't feel too poorly xxx

As the wound is so near the eye and looks to be a puncture type wound, seemingly of unknown origin, I would get a Vet to take a look at it. From the photo it does not look too bad, but it is impossible to make a reliable assessment of a wound from looking at a photo of it. Good luck xx
