Recommend a bunny savvy vet - Sheffield

Sarah1989

Warren Veteran
That also has a bunny savvy OOH care and not Russian roulette with whether you get a good one or not.

Following last nights tragedy, I want to move my boys to a rabbit savvy vet with rabbit savvy OOH care I can rely on.

Anyone? I'm in the hillsborough area, but will travel for the best vet care. My boys are my world & I adore them.

What about looking for one that doesn't contract out OOH care. Mine doesn't. I'll always see a vet from my practice, whatever the time is or what day it is.

There's one that does that in Woodseats. It's on the other side of town to me, but it's only about 30 mins drive so I'm probably going to go there in future. It's just up the road from my pole dancing class so I know it vaguely.

Is that peak vets? That's my current vet and they've been fine with basic stuff but when I asked about them on n email list I was told
"Just a quick response as I've only just seen this - but I would while hearted NOT recommend Peak Vets. I used to think they were fab, and whilst the vets are lovely, I don't feel they are able to be called "rabbit savvy".

I lost 2 rabbits under their care - a dental rabbit following an incisor extraction and a Pasturella rabbit. Sadly I trusted them at the time, but knowing what I know now, I know they made a lot of major and basic errors."

So they're probably not any better

Btw where do you go pole dancing cos woodseats is nr me and I used to go I London but never found anywhere in Sheffield

Yes it's peak vets. Ok, I'll cross them off my list! I don't want anyone not rabbit savvy anywhere near my boys in future!

It's Heeley where I go - just down the road from Woodseats. Google butterfly dance studio as that's it. Zoobec on here & I go every Wednesday to the 5-6 class.

Ice had a look at the wildbore one in Worksop. It's about 40 minutes away, but I used to drive for almost 1.5 hours to get to my snake vet until one opened much closer.

Anybody got anything to say about this one? Good or bad?

That's the one I use. I only moved up here in October though so haven't used them for long. From what I have seen of them they seem competent and friendly, I was very happy with the questions I was asked at my registration checkup which was free :p (though the nurse who gave me Farore's meds made me feel like a right idiot WHEN I WAS RIGHT  but she didn't give me wrong information I just did it differently to her and instead of thinking about it she just assumed her way was the only right way )

They have a lovely shop which sells good rabbit food and hay, seperate waiting rooms for dogs and small animals (receptionist looked really worried when I turned up with a dog and rabbits, she didn't know where to send me )

Plus they do their own OOH. Which is mainly why I chose them, they are 20/30 mins away from me and I live near crystal peaks but it is worth it.

ETA- I see Becky, she seems to be the newbie but so far I think she is great (she said she remembered my buns as they were the ones with the cool names :p)

My vets is Wildbore VetStop at Worksop. (They do a lot of work for Thornberry rescue).

They have hospital status so do their own OOH with their own vets and nurses. I've been with them for over 10 years and they have brought a few of my rabbits back from the brink over the years, Bentley and Wallace to name just two.

They were fantastic with my dental bunny Herbie who needed very regular dentals (every 3-6 weeks) throughout his entire 7 year life.

I now have Roo, another dental bunny, who doesn't cope very well with anaesthetic. He has to have an overnight stay as he is very slow to recover, but I know he is in the best hands and will be monitored throughout the night.

My vet is Hanna, but I do see the others if she's not available. Dave is very good too.

Another plus is that they consult until 8pm during the week and are open for consultations on Saturday and Sunday too.

I would definitely recommed them.

I took Waffles and DP back to Peak Vets today ,cos we've been clipping their claws fine since we got them but can't do the dewclaw and wanted to learn
We saw Alyson, who we've seen a few times and I was asking her about complicated bunnies and the best vet to see, and she said they were all good - which was disappointing as they very probably won't all be bunny savvy
But a very wise lady told me that without experiencing complicated bunnies, no vet will become bunny savvy
And I can't vouch for all their vets, but I found Alyson knowledgeable and easy to talk to
And there's always a vet on site for emergencies
So OH and I are going to stick with them and hope that if they see more bunnies with committed bunnyslaves, they will learn more and become more bunny savvy
All sets of paws are crossed

Woodseats would be closer, but I've already registered my lot at wildbore so I think I'll stay there. Good job my buns don't seem to be over fussed about travelling!

Mine hate it. And hate vets.
But vets are now happy to treat on floor to avoid 6ft leaps
So I guess I still couldn't confidently recommend but am sticking with them and will keep you updated!
And wildbore have been very highly recommended by a number of people so I think you're in very safe hands there

How're you doing by the way? Am glad you have a long weekend to take it easy and work through stuff and have lots of bunny time x

Are Wildbores actually rabbit specialists or just good with rabbits? Just wondering, as we are in Doncaster. When we needed a rabbit specialist, we had to go to Leeds ( even though our vets has hospital status). If Wildbores are rabbit specialists, it would have been much closer to go to Worksop!

Quite up and down really. Sometimes I'm fine when I'm distracted and then I remember & I crash. It helps that I have so many pictures of him and there are pictures of us together so I've got them on the background & screen saver on both my phone & laptop. It's hardest when I go in their room and theres no bunny lurking behind the door to escape & the others ignore me. I reminded myself that Blueberry is his brother & now the closest thing I have to him, so I'm spending lots of time with him as I feel a bit closer to Badger then. I've also started sleeping with a soft cuddly seal which is about the same size as Badger so I can pretend it's him.

I'm not sure if they're specifically rabbit specialists as they do see other animals, but they have been highly recommended by others on here & they don't contract out their ooh care so I'm giving them a go. I've not been yet, I (hopefully) won't until Slipper is due in July for his injections.

Wildbores aren't rabbit specialists, but are very good with rabbits and will always seek advice from specialists with issues beyond their expertise.

I have presented them with quite a number of bunny challenges over the years, Wallace being the most recent, so it all adds to their experience and learning. I have never once thought that they did not do right by me or my animals, no matter what the final outcome. I trust them 100%.

I have taken all kinds of problem bunnies there, my own and quite a few from the rescue where I volunteer.

I would be surprised if we don't bump into each other there at some point, Sarah. I'm there on a regular basis for one reason or another. :D

Oh, I'll look out for you then  I'll be the nervous worried looking girl with two carriers containing 1 stroppy diva & 2 others (oh, that's awful, I just typed 3 others & remembered ) and blue/black/purple hair depending on how long ago I was at the hairdressers
