  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Oliver Sludge Back Already - What Now

Oliver had his sludgey bladder x rayed and expressed 3 weeks ago. The past few days he is showing signs of discomfort and sitting for longer periods and not running around as much and definitely quieter. He is eatting and pooping ok. He has to go back to vets next week for his pee to be checked for calcium levels. I have changed pellets to oxbow t changed to low calcium veg (he won't eat them wet unfortunately) and changed their water to low calcium water and got him the oxbow urinary tablets too. But I guess this isn't enough. He isn't a big drinker. The vet said to only give metacam if he seemed off so I have given him 0.5ml last night but should he be on metacam daily ?? And I have read about sub q fluids to help sludge (vet said his sludge is in early stages with no stones) but then I read fluids can affect electrolyte balance. Also read magnesium liquid can help. I can afford monthly bladder expressing at £120 a time and the 3 hour round trip journey to this vet is a long way for wee Oliver but i don't know what to suggest v for the vet to try next ??
