Back to FHB we go

RedFraggle

Warren Veteran
Scarlet's being referred back to FHB.
Our vet is reluctant to give her a GA as her recovery was s poor last time but as usual she has one pesky tooth that continues to cause problems. It was clipped yesterday which has bought us some time but once we're back off holiday in a couple of weeks she's off to FHB hopefully for that tooth to be removed, x-rays and full bloods. I'm happy with the decision but dreading it already.

Eeeeep I wonder what FHB will say about the tooth being 'clipped'

Hope the troublesome tooth can be sorted out xx

I know, my bad (obviously the vet did it, not me!)

It was a clean clip though, with the same implement they'd use to clip back if she was knocked out (the long curved scissor things that undoubtedly have a more technical name than that!) and it bought her some time and she's happier for it. Her teeth aren't exactly healthy so they clip more easily than some and she doesn't struggle bless her. It was also made easier by the fact it has no other teeth around it and grows horizontally!

Poor Scarlet. :( Her mouth sounds like a right mess.

How is she doing? I hope Ori is taking good care of her.

Sending her tons of vibes. xx

She's eating ok today. She was pretty annoyed at having to go back to the vet today so our regular vet could have a look. If she's annoyed and thumping we're happy, that's our normal madam!

 Good good! I always say the same about Fiver. If he is growling and attacking his hay/towel in the carrier, then he's feeling fine lol.

FHB isn't well so we couldn't see her today (they rang yesterday). We're seeing Ruth tomorrow instead.

So, we have seen Ruth. She's kept them in and Scarlet will have bloods and an abdo xray tomorrow. If that doesn't show anything serious she will have a GA and Ruth will have a good look at her teeth.
She was quite happy with the vet having clipped Scarlet's tooth the other weekend and agreed it was the right thing to do in that circumstance, given the condition of her teeth and the manner in which it was done.

Now we have to wait!

Sending tons and tons of vibes her way. I do hope nothing bad shows up. x

I have a very good vet who 'clips' one of my rabbits' teeth, and then rasps if necessary, whilst she is awake. I don't think this is necessarily a terrible thing if it's done in the best interests of the rabbit.

Initial update:
She made it through the GA, hurdle one complete, well done Scarlet!
Abdominal xray looked ok. Lungs weren't as clear as they should be but they see this fairly regularly and it usually doesn't come to anything. Teeth are a mess, but by Scarlet's standards ok and no ulceration or anything very obvious. If it's mouth pain the likely culprit is a back upper LHS molar that was quite long and has nothing below it so that could have been making it difficult/painful to eat. Neither that or her wonky front one that Peter clipped are loose so couldn't be pulled but both are now nice and short. She only has 2 teeth on the left hand side. Roots are in but the crowns have dropped off on the ones that weren't previously removed. So advanced dental disease on the LHS. The RHS is fairly good, bottom teeth were very long and have been burred back a bit. The xrays have gone home with Nigel Harcourt Brown tonight for FHB to look at. Blood results will be back next week. She should be able to come home tomorrow aft.

Well done Scarlet! Good girl.

Well, this sounds like good news. If it is her teeth causing problems then hopefully the burring will help her. Obviously it's not the ideal outcome, but I think it's good that nothing major has shown up. I hope the lungs not being too clear is just one of those things and nothing sinister. x

Glad she made it through today ok and really hope it was 'just' her teeth. Got to be a good sign that there's nothing else major going on.

Scarlet's home and is ok, hopping about, eating, weeing and pooing! Tests and xrays didn't show anything so we are assuming it was just her "nawty teefs". She excelled herself this fortnight: £550 lost on a holiday (we were refunded £50 for cancelling with 3 days notice), £294 bill from the specialist vets, £72 out of hours visit the other Sunday, £180 for two night stay in the lakes (that we're hoping to have next week but can cancel at no charge if we need to) £10 deposit lost on rabbit boarding for the planned holiday next week (Bunny Camp very generously said not to pay the £60 balance even though I offered). That's £1106 pounds in two weeks. Need I say, we love our bun!

Owch! It's a shame about your holiday, but Scarlet is worth it.
