A tale of 3 kittens & 1 duckling

William

Wise Old Thumper
The kittens eyes started opening yesterday! They're 9 days old now. Well technically the black one is only 8 days old since he was born a few minutes after midnight.

Nyx is continuing to be a good mom:D When she's not running around and playing that is  She'll have so much fun playing with them when they're a little older!

The little drowned duckling is 24 days old today! Aside from what must be a scab on top of her head and some missing feathers on her head where the drake held her with his bill you wouldn’t have known anything ever happened to her. I think I'm going to call her Nemo.

Amazingly she acts just like my previous imprinted ducklings (wants to be with me 24/7, peeps when I leave, follows me, loves affection etc). I wasn’t expecting that at all! Although I don’t think she could be imprinted since she was 6 days old when I got her - that’s just a couple days too old to imprint, from what I’ve always heard anyway.

These span over the last couple of weeks so she's slightly younger in some pictures

Watching game of thrones together last week. she stared at the screen (I was watching it on laptop) for awhile, all like intent lol

Chewing my lips, she’s gotten into the habit of doing that lately

I love this pic because you can see her little teeth when you look close. I don't know why but I find duck teeth so cute. They're teeny tiny but sharp and hurt quite a lot!

June kept going over to her and the duckling was all excited, wanting to meet her, but June wanted to hurt her and the silly duckling didn't realize so I had to keep my hand nearby

So innocently cute

She used to love sleeping in my shirt, on my stomach, when she was younger!

Now she loves sleeping in my hand, or with my hand cupped around her

What amazing photos.

I've had kittens over the past 20 years (well, not me, but three of my cats) and watching them born and growing up is amazing. I am hopeless at parting with them though which is how I ended up with 10 cats at one point. Are you going to keep your three?

I would love to have another litter at some point but would foster a pregnant cat next time rather than let one of mine have kittens as in the UK there are so many cats needing homes that I don't want to add to the numbers. I didn't think of that when I was younger.

Your duckling looks awesome too:love:

There's an overpopulation of cats here as well so I feel bad for adding 3 more to the equation, although we are keeping them.

I've been trying to talk my parents into letting me foster :D Fostering pregnant cats would be awesome! It's pretty amazing to watch them be born and watch them grow. When I was 12/13 I raised 2 other litters of kittens. 3 that I found in my woods, their eyes were just starting to open when we found them. We had to handfeed them of course which was a cool experience. And then the other was another accidental litter, in that case our boys got through a locked door when we were gone for a few hours.

I've never fostered before but I'd probably find it hard to part with them too. I really want to foster cats and other animals though and since I love interacting with lots of different animals I'd just keep telling myself that in order to do that I'd have to part with them!

gorgious photos. the duckling is a proper sweetie- but then what duckling isn't? lol and the kittens look beautiful-and a lovely healthy looking trio

Raising kittens is a wonderful experience  (I had a pregnant cat dumped on me along with her sister. She had five kittens - we kept one and the rest went to family and friends)

Also love the duckling! I also keep muscovies and they are amazing

You got names for the little kittens yet?
