Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Finnlay weight?

Just been keeping an eye on my bunnies weight over the last few days. Finn is fairly lazy anyway and always stretching out on the blankets. :? Milo is always jumping around.

But I'm wondering if Finn looks big to anyone? Can rabbits of that age (nearly 8 weeks) get too big? He weight around 800 and something grams. He is supposed to be a mini lop? Anyone?

Hi,
It can be difficult to tell if a bun is overweight just by looking, I think if you can feel his spine when you stroke him he is probably ok, although not feel his bones too much if you know what I mean.
I have a medium lop who looks a bit like your Finn, and I think they do tend to be kinda square shaped in the body. I often thought my boy was a little overweight, but the vet has weighed him and felt him and says he is fine.
Maybe he's not fat, he just has big fur!

You should be able to feel his spine (but not every bone really clearly!) and his ribs should sort of feel like pencils if you run your fingers over them :)
Fergie has really bony hip bones but he's not too skinny though which is weird - he's been vet checked and hes just a bony bun!

According to mines vacc record when he got done at 18 weeks he was 1.44kg so he was probably a bit smaller than yours at 8 weeks! But he was a very very tiny bun!
I wouldn't worry if he's not overweight - might just turn out to be a of a bigger bun! :)
