Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hi everyone ! Need some bunny advice! My rabbit had a dental 3 wks ago but since then he's not been right and I think he's poorly and something up and wasn't his dental! He was on an off food he had gut stimulate injections they fed him then he would perk up one day then go down again! We took him back vets in sat and they have use metacam and bayatril for 2 weeks ! He seemed to perk up over bank hol was eating more but more alert u thought finally! But yday he started his usual were he just sleeps all the time barely moves nibbles one or 2 things so I though he's having an off day but I got up today and he's not eaten anything and again just sleepin! Shall I take him back vets again? Just concerned thei is something else going on :( please help I'm so worried xxxx

How stressful for you :(

It certainly sounds as though there is something not quite right and it would be a good idea to take him back to the vet as soon as possible.

I hope the vet can get to the root cause of the problem xxx

I would agree that he does not sound quite right and a trip back to the vets is needed.

Metacam and baytril should not make him sleepy.

Do you have a bunny savvy vet who will be able to give him a thorough examination?

Well I don't think their rabbit savvy so I've just put another thread up asking if anyone knows of any in the Manchester Stockport area :) it's been 3 wks ad he's up and down and I'm just getting so stressed out now! Well I'm going to take him back tonight then maybe take him somewhere else too to someone who might be able to help xxx

Just seen your other post and mentioned some that people use on here.

Good luck, I hope you can get him sorted x

I would just take him elsewhere this morning if you are not comfortable with your usual vets.

I'm back at my vets now so I'll let u know how it goes if I'm nt happy I'll go elsewhere just want my happy boy back now xxx

If you are not happy when you see your vet, please go and see another one immediatly. I did this with one of mine (locum vet said probably PTS), walked out and rang another vet who I saw within the hour, he got her well and I now see this vet all the time.

Took him back they've checked him all his mouth looks fine eyes fur ears ..... He's lost more weight tho so are now like there's something going on .... There keeping him in and giving him fluids and food and are going to take bloods and send them off to an exotic lab and give them the bloods from when he had a dental and do some digging and research .... Pick him up later .... Hopefully something will come up .... Mystery bunny! Xxx

Are they sure they managed to burr all the spurs down properly? Remember that checking teeth in a conscious bun is not 100% accurate. They can only see some of the teeth, not all.

Also worth mentioning tooth root problems. If his bloods come back fine, he may need an xray to check for elongated tooth roots. You can also ask your vets to ring a rabbit specialist for advice.

Sending vibes. x

I'm sorry *lily* but did you put that on purpose?! I nearly spat out my tea

I hope your boy gets better soon, Kelly11.

Hi

Just thought i would give an update :) his bloods game back absolutly fine which is gd and his xrays were fine so hes been on critical care syringe food since wednesday (wednesday was when he spent a day at the vets being fed and getting fluids)
since then hes been home and weve been syringe feeding him every couple of hours and offering herbs grass and kale

everyday we are seeing slight improvements - today he ran out the hutch onto the grass! and has eaten more herbs then normal - we believe he had GI Stasis and he had his dental beginning of this month but wasnt eating hay and then eating veg and pellets and then he was sneezing loads so we think hes just had problems since his dental and been up down up down and then now we need to manage him properly and get him back!

hopefully we are on the road to recovery as each day i feel little bits of dillon shining through - weve been here before tho when hes got better then suddenly stopped eatin again so im trying to not get to excited! but im sure u can all understand if uve had a poorly bun and to see them eating and going for food!

fingers crossed!

thanks everyone :) me too! as his energy levels are increasings hes getting more difficult to syringe feed haha but i want to keep that up as i think the stuff in critical care is really helping and hes only eating herbs and grass :) i just hope this is the road to recovery my heart cant take much more!

feel awful when your bunnies are ill they are like your children and its taken over my life but i wouldnt have it any other way i would do anything for them :) xx
