  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Vet made her ill??

Delta

Warren Scout
Delta had her vaccinations last week. She had the combined last year and the same one this year. The vet was a locum so hadn't seen him before.
He did the injection then when liquid was coming out realised it had gone through the other side of her skin. He loaded up another injection and the liquid came out again but he said it was coming out of a hole from the first injection. He said she should have enough in her to cover her for the year.
Ever since she's had that injection though she hasn't been right. She's still eating but not anywhere near as much as usual. Normally she'll literally have your hand off for pellets now she's not even eating what she's being given. She's still pooping although I think they are smaller as usual.
She's still running round like a loon and causing trouble and not in pain so I don't know what's changed apart from the injection.
Any ideas??

Was the liquid from the needle cleaned off her fur?

Accidents do happen, we all make mistakes at work, and vaccines can make them feel a bit rubbish for a few days, but it might be worth a trip back if you feel she isn't right.

No it wasn't. I know mistakes happen but you know what it's like, she's my baby lol. It's been a week now so i'd expect her to be back to normal. I think another trip down there might be an idea.

If the liquid was not cleaned off of her fur, she could have ingested it. I think it would be a good idea to call the vets and ask if this could be harmful.

It sounds like her gut has slowed down. Try to encourage her to eat her hay, and other high-fibre foods that you feed (forage, herbs, leaves, leafy greens).

Ok I'll phone them first thing tomorrow.
She still seems to be eating ok just not in her normal quantities or with her usual greed:lol:

Make sure you tell the vet this, and mention the change in her poos. She is showing the typical signs of a gut slow-down.
