Not the best news from the vets for little Lullah :(

HoneyBear

Mama Doe
She is very underweight and already has small spurs on her teeth from not being fed properly :(
Vet is quite concerned.
She's only 300g and he also thinks she's younger than 14 weeks.
Since we have got home she's also left loads of cecal poos all over the place .
Should I be worried and how can I help her?

I would be concerned, yes.
What did John say?

I didn't see John as a 2 hour round trip so I went to our local vets.
He was great still, said I need to get lots of types of hay and forage into her and wean her off the **** food she has been on. He wants to see her again weekly to check her progress and im going to weigh her at home too.

Annoyingly the cecal issue didn't start till we got home, anyone have any ideas how I can help her?

When Doughnut lost a lot of weight when she was really poorly my specialist put her on alfalfa hay. I used to give her a handful with her other hay and it helped her gain weight. Not sure about the extra cecal though, maybe just call you vets and see what he says about the alfalfa.

I also sprinkle a bit of probiotic over her food once a day, not for weight but for her digestion, not sure this will help but it won't do any harm.

Is she on pellets for young buns? I have trouble keeping weight on Apple and she has come on leaps and bounds since I moved her to SS Junior Pellets - it helps that she loves them.

Maybe a few oats added too? - they've always helped when I've had an underweight bun.

Would she eat Fibre First? I think they are great for dental buns. I can bring a few over on Wednesday if you'd like to try her on them?

I know it's not much help but Rose left cecals intermittently for a few weeks from about 2 1/2 months olds. Stopped when she was bonded (or rather when Humphrey jumped the 3ft divide between them deciding he wanted to be friends!), so wasn't anything to worry about in her case.

It might just be a case of settling in.

Poos might be the stress of moving home and going to the vets, it may have been very scary for her. I probably wouldn't try and change her food yet, she's had a lot happen over the past few days so keeping the food the same will help keep things a bit samey for her. Maybe lessen the amount, I'm not sure how much food babies should have though.

Excess cecals are probably stress related. Try and get her to eat as much hay as possible and also some Fibreplex may help in the short term. It sounds as though she may have a congenital malocclusion

Did the Vet comment on her left eye at all ?

She is eating hay like a horse, I'll add a bit of alfalfa for her too slowly.
I'm not sure what food she is on, they did give me a bag and it's a sort of pellet and muesli mix, again she is eating a lot and I'm free feeding her at the moment as she's so small.
I've brought a bag of SS junior pellets to slowly move her onto and a bag of herbal forage to hopefully help her too.
I have profibre pellets for Alice, do you think she would be able to have one or two of those?

No the vet didn't comment on her eye.

Yes, that is a long journey but at least you have JC in the background should you need more specialist advice/treatment. I'll end with what JC always finishes with: Good luck!

When I got Doughnut I just fed her as instructed which was unlimited muesli and had excess cecal everywhere, basically I was giving her too much but she was 8 weeks. Once I restricted her muesli intake they cleared up straight away. I think once her weight is up and she is older and you can get her on a healthier diet, then it may well go away.
