  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Gripe water for rabbit.

New Kit
My 3 week old kit has gas, I rang my vet and said I'd been giving her a little gripe water which she was OK with. I was just wondering how much would be best? If anyone does this for their rabbit with gas?

Your posts are confusing me..... is this the same kit you keep posting about.... if so i think you need to take it to the vet as something is not quite right x

Yes its the same kit. She has already been seen by my vet the first day I noticed something was wrong. I originally took her as she stopped eating and hadn't passed any poo for a number of hours, a long with some jelly mucus like stuff instead. The vet prescribed critical care food which she's eating and antibiotics. Yesterday she seemed to develop a little gas, so I rang my vet but she said their wasn't much to do for gas apart from massages and wait for her to pass it out herself. I saw on here people have given their bunnies gripe water so I purchased some but as she's so young I wanted to check this was OK and if anyone had a certain amount they've given a young bunny before. So I thought asking some advice on here alongside the vets prescriptions might help more.
