  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

poo problems

today me and mum had to try and remove a lump of poo that was stuck around her bottom area , my mum keeps saying that she removes it as it keeps accualating , she empties her litter tray everyday so why does it keep sticking to her around her bottom, theres still a little bit left on her but she wont let us touch it and shes struggling so we stopped so we didnt stress her out , im going to talk to a different vet tommorrow to see if i can get a second opinion

What do you feed her?

Is it solid poos around her bum or soft ones? What do her normal poos (the ones not stuck to her) look like?

i feed her hay and excel rabbit pellets and some dandelion leaves/flowers , i was one big lump , hard on outside and soft on the inside

Sounds like it could be excess ceacals. (the soft poo that buns usually eat before you see it)

how much pellets do you feed?
i have found that biscuit tends to have a lot of excess ceacals when i fed him burgess excel pellets, but cutting them down and increasing his hay intake improved it.

what did the vet say when you went?
did they check her weight, teeth and if there was any physical reason that could be stopping her from eating her ceacals? Like arthritis?
