  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Poorly bun :(

one of our buns is refusing food and sitting tense and hunched (no tooth grinding). I've tried him with pellets, fiba first sticks and fresh coriander- all things he loves. he has taken a total of 4 pellets, normally he'd be (sometimes literally) taking your fingers off to get at them. The vet opens at 8.30 so I will take him down first thing, is there anything I can do to make him happier/more comfortable in the mean time?

Edit: hes eating coriander now (50mins after I first offered him breakfast), although not quite with his usual gusto, still refusing pellets and ignoring hay.

Has he poo'd ? What comes out is just as important as what goes in

I would still take him to the Vet, even if he is now eating a little.

Good luck xx

teeth are fine, vet gave him painkillers and a gut stimulant and I've been given meloxidyl, baytril, ranitidine and critical care away.

unfortunately I have to go to work so the vet has suggested splitting their pen so I can be sure that MJ is eating and poo'ing. Hopefully they won't be too upset at being separated, although they'll still be right next to each other :/

Thanks, they are housebuns so he should be warm enough, even though he can't snuggle into his wifey bun right now :(

I'm at work now and wont be home until about 6pm, quite stressful hoping that he is ok at home :(

Just home, he has eaten some coriander and some pellets, maybe a barley ring and drank a little water. I gave him some more coriander and he ate some of it and left the rest. He has done about 10 poo's which are about half the size of normal. I can't tell if he has eaten any hay although it does look undisturbed (he usually digs at it). I've given him a bit of wet kale, but he would only take one but. He still seems interested in food, getting excited when he hears a bad rustle and having a good sniff but then he just doesn't eat it :(
