  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Question about meds used for dental

BeeBee

Mama Doe
 sorry I don't post much but wondered if anyone knew the side effects of he following items on the receipt from Bee's dental today.

He has had dentals previously and normally bounces back straight away but is a lot wobbler and quieter this time. Bought him home today at 5.20pm and still trying to get him to eat.

The receipt says;

1 x dental - exotic rasp molars
1 x anaesthetic (exotic) (excluding drugs)
Domitor inj 10ml
Ketaset inj
Antisedan inj 10ml 5mg/ml
Loxicom inj 20ml dogs/cats

Thanks :)

Do you know what time he had the GA ? The Domitor and Ketaset are the GA drugs and the Antisedan is the drug given to reverse the sedation once the Dental treatment has been completed.

Loxicom is Meloxicam, a non steroidal anti-inflammatory.

Thank you for replying - I was really hoping you would read this post. I was going to pm you but didn't want to hassle you.

They didn't give the exact time of the op but implied it was early this morning. He was taken in at 9am, received message at 3.30 to say he was fine and could collect after 4.30pm.

He may just be slower to recover this time. How old is he ? Older Rabbits and Rabbits who are a bit portly can take considerably longer to recover from the sedation. On the receipt is there any mention of fluid therapy being given ? That would help recovery. My Vets give both fluids and oxygen during recovery.

Thank you ... He will be 3 in may- He was 1.74kg when weighed, I'm sure his last dental he was lighter. There is nothing on the receipt to say that fluids were given. I ticked on the consent form that I wanted sub-fluids.

I remembered from lots of your posts about sub-cutaneous fluids and the benefit of them.

I will ask for more info tomorrow at the post op, unless we end up at the ooh tonight. Thanks for replying :)

He has never grunted before but has just done it at me now which I take as a sign of him telling me to leave him alone
