  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Really big wees?

Our new bun Bertie does realllllllly massive wees. He's our 6th bun and I've never seen anything like it before. All the others were young/netherlands dwarf, but Bertie is only 2.5kg, so just under double the mass of any of them, but they are sooooo big in comparison. It seems counter intuitive as he doesn't really eat hay so we are giving him plenty of fresh grass which is higher in water. When he doesn't use the litter tray, they seem to spread about 30cm x 3cm.

Does this seem about right? We can't tell if he's drinking excessively, or just saving up his wees, or if our other bunnies just weren't thirsty...

All I can conclusively say is THANK HEAVENS he's started using his litter tray more!

Generally yes, and not very smelly at all, though occasionally it is more yellow (one he did on me today was, and smelt a lot like human wee). Never dark at all.

I would monitor his weight and water consumption. If he is drinking a lot and/or losing weight then that could be indicative of a renal problem.

Ok, thanks for your advice. It's weird as he doesn't seem to be drinking loads, but then all the wee happens! We'll keep an eye on him :thumb: Thanks again :)
