  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Myxomatosis advice

Need to add this isn't one of mine as they are all vaccinated but we have found one and don't know what to do. I have just found out through Facebook that many more including babies have been spotted in our area and it breaks my heart to think of the outcome for these poor rabbits. It seems like an act of deliberate cruelty to me and angers me to why and how people can be so cruel. :censored:

Is the bun vaccinated?

ETA: Didn't see your second post. I think some people have successfully treated buns that haven't been vaccinated, but it's a long and difficult road to recovery. I think it's rare they survive and it just prolongs the suffering

Do you think the RSPCA would help or our local rescue sanctuary if I got in touch?

A lot depends on the severity of it too, if bun is vaccinated may be less severe, but one of my bridge buns caught it despite being vaccinated (old single vaccine done 6 monthly) and had to be PTS, it developed very quickly and was the worst case my vet had ever seen  if it is unvaccinated then it is likely to be a severe case I would think
