  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rabbit Insurance

I did a forum search but the only topic I could find on this was several years old! Is Petplan still the best insurance company for rabbits? I'm seriously considering having my two insured but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of choice out there.

Afaik petplan is still the most comprehensive cover, yep :D I personally wouldn't go anywhere else

It depends so much on personal circumstances, if I only had a couple of rabbits it would be Pet Plan. If I take on any more I will insure with P@H because they are way cheaper for 'value for money' cover.

At the moment I have quite a few older rabbits and the Pet Plan insurance premiums are getting very high - Esme's premium (just turned 6) came through for the next year at £185  Dinky (also 6) is insured with Pets at Home and her annual premium 6 months ago was £76. The major difference in cover for me is if the bill goes over £1,500 for the year I have to pay the extra, for me it's worth taking the gamble for the price difference.
