  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Pet insurance?

We are so excited that our pair of rabbits Zen and Ian will be arriving next week after Zen recovers from her spay operation (fingers crossed). Thank you Mackers for the recommendation to get them from The Rabbit Residence - Caroline and Amy have been brilliant, so helpful with advice re accommodation etc. I am now looking for advice about pet insurance - companies that you recommend or those to be avoided? Thanks in advance x

I'm with petplan. They pay out for dentals (as long as the rabbit has no dental history and has a yearly dental exam) they also work with many vets so that they pay the vet directly. Lots of insurance companies don't so you have to fork out the money to pay the bill then claim it back from the insurance, though of course that depends on your vet, not all offer that.

You get multi-pet discounts, I think my guys are about £10 a month each.

If you shop around be sure to get the whole of life cover.

Hi, exciting times for you!

We recently insured ours through Help U Cover
. Looked at Pet Plan but was £5 more per month per rabbit and I couldn't see what was better or would make me pay more. We pay £10.50 each so £21 per month xx

I too go with helpucover, you get a 10% discount online and 1 month free if you insure more than one pet. Mine varies from 6.87 to 8.63 per rabbit a month x
