  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

She may have something in it; a grass seed, a splinter, anything tiny that you can't see. Both of my girls had something in their paws (at different times). I only really noticed because they seemed to be paying a lot more attention to it by licking it a lot more than normal and eventually Thumper didn't like to put her front paw on the ground.

How long has your bunny been like it? It could be that if she does have something in it then it might come out on its own, but if she's quite sore with it (which it sounds like as she's not putting it on the floor) then you have no option but to take her to the vet.

Bear in mind that even when she is covered by insurance you would have to pay an excess fee, usually around £50, so you won't gain anything by making her wait for another 5 days as the bill will probably be less than that anyway (mine was), depending what's in her foot of course.

Personally as she's finding it difficult to put her foot on the floor you should take her to the vet.

Sorry; just realised that the bunny with the poorly foot is male, not female.

When you go to the vet, take them both. You won't be charged for taking them both but you really shouldn't separate them if you don't have to. I have never ever taken mine to the vet separately, even if it's only the one who needs to go.

I would restrict her to the front room for a while like youre doing as that should be enough space for her for now and maybe for just short periods restrict her to her dog cage just to ensure that her ankle gets alittle rest.Being a young bunny I know that will be hard!I would definately ring the vet about her pain killer.Hope she continues to improve.Shes really beautiful by the way!

I know it feels bad to close the door behind her in her dog crate, but pop her in for an hour or so every now and again with some yummy hay and some toilet roll tubes filled with hay maybe to keep her occupied.
id call vet and ask for some metacam you can syringe to her, just because her foot is still obviously giving her discomfort.
might be an idea to buy a cheap duvet and pop that on the ground so its not so hard on her feet.
(cheap in case she dogs it to shreds;) )
i love the pic of her on the bean bag! What a sweetie! :) xxxx
