  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Repeat bloods

A few or so months ago Jimby had a panel of blood done which identified raised liver count, the vet was pretty confident that this was consistent of him being in partial stasis at the time of testing.
He did say that it would not be a bad idea to have the blood retested again to make sure the levels have returned to normal.
Obviously I don't want to put him through anything that is not necessary, how important do you think retesting is?

Hiya Rach  I'm not sure really... Is Jimby ok at the moment? I think if he was mine and he was fine in himself I would just leave it x

I agree.

Elevate Liver enzymes are a relatively common finding when the Rabbit is in gut stasis or recovering from it. If he is fine within himself, no unexplained weightloss and/or excessive drinking then personally I dont think I would want to have more bloods taken.

Also, if he was on Metacam when the bloods were taken that could have been another cause of elevated Liver enzymes.

He was on Ketofen as a pain reliever.
I guess my concern is not knowing and being worryed that there could be something underlying going on and withouttests I wouldnt know and may have been able to help him.

If you feel it is something you want to do then you could, but IMO at the moment it would be an unnecessary stress for Jimby
