  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Thumper one of my out door males has rapidly lost weight and today I noticed he was swollen around his willy area, looks like an enlarged ball but hes been neuted, we are off to the vets soon but any ideas?, hes 5yrs old an always been healthy

Is he vaccinated? Myxi can present with swollen genitals. My bunny Nobby had swollen bits but turned out he just had a urine infection rather than anything sinister and he was better after AB's.

Good luck at the vets xx

We are back from the vets with baytrill, he has a split anus , shes not sure what could have caused this, she also said his tummy appears sore but the fact he is till eating fine dosent indicate a teeth problem, she has advised us to seperate him so ive brought him indoors to our coolest room as I only have a 48inch dogvcrate to put him in, so far he has munched pellets, cabbage and hay with great enthusiasm so now im wondering if he could have had a fight with the other male and is being bullied over food although whenever im out there I dont see this happening and he appears to get as much food as the others, we have to keep an eye on his poo as she said hard black poops will indicate issues.
