Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Looking for rabbit savvy vet in the Slough/Windsor/Marlow/Maidenhead/H.Wycombe area!

Hello RU,

I am wanting Neo to have his jab before he is neutered and would like to know of a good vets near Slough/Windsor/Marlow/Maidenhead/H.Wycombe.

Hoping to get the jab done this week - he's ok with travelling but ideally not too far from SL1 8DA.

Also, how much can I expect to be charged?

Thanks :D

Hi
I am in Woking.
Just for jabs I use a local vets that does the combi vac however for anything else, any illness etc I use Trinity vet in Maidstone,
They are all excellent with rabbits there. None of the other vets are very good with rabbits round here.
I think thee may be a good one in Twickenham or Richmond- is that too far for you to go?
Nikki

Hi Nikki,
Thanks for your reply :)
I have been given a neuter voucher for Neo (as he was adopted) with this company: http://www.companioncare.co.uk/slough.html
But I would like to register him with a permanent Vets as I don't know if I would be confident doing his claws and teeth checks (at the moment anyway!)
Thank you for the suggestion of Maidstone but it seems so far away lol!

The ones local to me are the following - if anyone has any feedback of them being good/bad I'd love to know.

Abbey Veterinary Group - Reading
Active Vetcare - Maidenhead/Slough
Alma Veterinary Hospital - Windsor
Beeches Veterinary Hospital - Slough
Chobham Road Veterinary Surgery - Ascot
Family Friends Vets - Slough
First Care Veterinary Centre - Slough
Forest House Veterinary Group - Ascot/Windsor
Hall Place Veterinary Centre - Maidenhead
M S Vets Ltd - Reading
Penstone Veterinary Group - Slough
The Pines Veterinary Clinic - Maidenhead

That's just taken from a website and I know a few of them but only in regards to a cat which is very very different to a rabbit!!!

Hi
Hopefully some one else will come along and may advise you on the list, sorry i don't know them personally.
I am not sure I would be happy with companion pets, i know of people who have had bad experience with the ones in Woking with rabbits. But with any practice it is usually down to the individual vets and whether they have had the relevant training.
Well done you for doing your homework first though :) . I never realised that rabbits were classed as exotics until I got mine.
It might be worth doing a search for exotic specialist in your area.
Good luck
Nikki

Hopefully! The longer that we wait the more difficult I think it will be for him as I don't want him getting too ... 'macho' with his testosterone or whatever haha, he's taking an interest in my leg when I'm stood up, I always go "NO" and he stops - he's a good boy really, used his litter tray as soon as I bought him one yesterday! Proud Mum :)

I'm a bit worried with how expensive the neutering will be if we don't use the voucher (I know, I know, animals cost money etc, I do have savings if anything goes wrong or if he were to get ill).

I do know that they frequently offer free neutering as that is the term and conditions of their adopted rabbits - however maybe a lot of people don't use it from bad press maybe?
This is the one local to me - http://www.companioncare.co.uk/slough-meet-our-team.html they seem to be quite focused on small animals, but obviously if they have bad press in other places it might be a concern :?

Someone help lol!

Could you ring them and ask about their experience with rabbits? Thats what I did with our local vet.

Good idea.
looking at the link for companion care it does not look like any of them have that much experience of rabbits or trained in that area though

Ooh good idea, but if they're money grabbers they'd have no issue lying? :?

Yeah, just mentions used to small furries.

I could really do with a local, local person that's actually used some of them lol!

Sorry to bump this again, but I've just seen this:

http://www.familyfriendsvets.co.uk/content/the_vets.php

"Subo qualified from the University of Sydney in 2004. She came over to the UK and started work in Leicestershire where she met Chris. For four years she worked at King Richards Veterinary Centre in Leicester, where for 18 months she became the Principal Veterinary Surgeon following the owner's retirement. Subo was the main vet for number of charities in Leicester: The National Animal Trust, Honeybunnies Rabbit & Guinea Pig Rescue and Hedgehog Rescue."

Would she maybe be a good person to speak to about neutering? I'm not totally sure what exactly I'm looking for, qualification wise...

Costs:
Neutered - 58.50
Vaccination - 38.00
Check up - 18.50
Nail clip - 10.65

You can email the RWAF and they'll give you a recommendation in your area from their rabbit vet database. There's also a sticky somewhere on the forum with questions to ask potential vets when you ring up

ETA http://forums.rabbitrehome.org.uk/showthread.php?267127-How-to-find-a-good-rabbit-vet :)

Ooooh, thank you for the link, that's a great idea.
I like the sneaky questions too, haha!

The RWAF? Ahh, just googled them, will drop them an email although someone has mentioned that it's something you need to pay for? I'll email them now :)

No you don't have to pay, vets have to pay to be a member of the rwaf to be on the list I think but the info is available to anyone

The two in bold were volunteering up a lot more information, asked if there was anything I wanted to ask them, mentioned that they have their own rabbits, were very polite and friendly, told me they open Saturday (much longer hours than anyone else).
Does anyone have any experience with these?

Thanks again.

I'll stop posting soon :lol::oops:

Frosty and Snowflake were 80 each to be neutered ... pricey little things. Better to go to rescue (I know that NOW) :)

Really? We were given a free voucher but it's for the company that are sort of in partnership with Pets at Home.
We don't really know what to do to be honest, I'd like to go somewhere less... 'commercial'? But I'm sure the vets know what they're doing.

I'm torn!
