Is this a third eyelid? And why would it be showing?

Silly question, but I've never really known what a third eyelid is! But since marbles has had her ear infection her eyes have looked different, with the whites showing and a bit 'bulge-y' looking.

Is this the third eyelid? And does anyone know why it might look like this during an ear infection?

Thanks. Marbles doesn't have any of those things (I hope) so I'm a bit confused :? I hope it's not a sign of anything bad

Does Marbles still have an ear infection? When Sorrell had an ear infection his third eyelids were really prominent, so could just be that she is still feeling under the weather x

Thanks for replying. Yeah she does still have an ear infection. The eye thing has only been for the last few days. That's interesting to know it happened to Sorrell too, as ear infection wasn't on the list on the page jane posted. She was sneezing yesterday so I wondered if she had a respiratory infection but that seems to be better today. Did Sorrell's eye sort itself when his ear infection cleared?

Yes they got better, though he always has them "peeping" (though have seen this on a few giants so think it's normal for him) a little. They also came out when he had a reaction to the combi vacc last year and he was feeling under the weather :(

My cat had her third eyelids out when she was poorly after an op and the vet said it's something that happens when they are not feeling well.

Hope Marbles feels better soon, would be worth getting the sneezing checked out just in case as the pasteurella infection that causes snuffles can also cause ear infections so they could be related x

Well that's put me at ease a little bit, thank you. It just looks kind of scary when they're not normally like that.

We are off to a specialist tomorrow as my vet today just said more baytril which I wasn't happy with. I really hope the specialist will have some ideas other than baytril and 'wait and see'!
