  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Redness in corner of eye???? HELP

My Phoebe's right eye is red and seems to be irritated in the corner with a tiny patch or fur missing where there are two small two red dots. I'm thinking it could be from my other dominant lion head who she lives with. They're both female and have been together since they were babies. She doesn't seem to be in pain and she's only a few months old. Can I apply dab some polysporin on the patch with a Q-tip maybe? If it gets any worse I will take her to the vet but I want to see if theres anything I can do to make it go away on my own.

I would take her to the vet. It's hard to know what it is/how bad without seeing it, so if you're concerned then a vet trip will be the best thing, as the vet can do a proper qualified examination. I don't know what polysporin is but I'd avoid putting anything on yourself without a veterinary opinion.

It sounds a bit like a rabbit I have. She came with a little runny eye which was red in the corner. The Vet gave me some eye drops called Terasil or something similar and after a week or so it cleared up. It was an antibiotic liquid. If it is an infection, which it might be, she will need something like this.

If you want to clean it, just use cool boiled water, nothing else. Pop her to the vets tomorrow for a check up, she may need further treatment. x
