  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Advantage Spot on

New Kit
Hi, first thread on here

2 Questions, firstly what could the side effects of treatment be? I know it can be scratching, hair loss and redness, but i'm not sure if i should be looking for anything else?

Secondly, Contra- indications? - Times when it would not be advisable to use the treatment, e,g illnesses/pregnancy

I've never used this but does the rabbit have a problem? Someone with more knowledge will be along soon.

i'm planning on getting a rabbit but was wondering if spot on was a good treatment to get and what the side effects could be (just in case) plus when shouldn't i use it

I don't use a spot on routinely for buns, I just treat them if necessary. I think advantage is prescription only so you may not be able to get it before you get your bun.

It's always best to get a bunny checked by a vet anyway if you think there is something wrong with them.

The best protection you can give a new bunny is to make sure they are vaccinated.

It used to be but it isn't anymore. I also only treat when it's needed.

Rabbits don't tend to get fleas :)

Tell that to mine, who are indoors and never go out. They still managed to get them off either my cats or my uncles dogs (all of which are treated regularly and checked over for fleas often!)
