Bit peeved with sspca

They have an absolutely gorgeous little bunny and I would love to offer her a home (i was up at the centre with a friend looking at the dogs), I would get her a friend ofcourse but they turned me down flat as I don't own my house and have to many pets apparently!
Now ok it's a council house but pets are allowed as to having to many pets surely that's for me to decide they were so Rude and insinuated that I couldn't possibly be caring for them all properly! All my animals are socialized, clean and well cared for the bunny would have the run of a spare bedroom til I got the shed sorted (would need new window & floor) plus a 8x6 run I'm a vet nurse have a rabbit nursing qualification and use the d1ck vet for specialist care for my previous buns but they didn't even ask any questions about that
The whole thing left me deflated I now will not bother trying to rescue from anywhere (i'm not going to buy either) I'll just stay bunniless and miserable.
I miss my rabbits so much they were my life for 10 years and I'm bereft without them but each time I try to rescue one something gets in the way
Rant over :cry::cry:

I'm just a bit scared they will turn me down as well I don't think I could stand getting my hopes up then crushed again I honestly thought I would cope better than I am. I love all my pets equally but I am really missing having rabbits and I know there are so many in rescues I would like to adopt some.
But maybe it's not meant to be just yet

Too many pets? They rehomed two rats to me after seeing our 2 dogs, 5 rats, 2 hamsters, 2 birds, 6 snakes, 2 lizards and various exotic bugs. I think they vary quite a bit from branch to branch but there are other rescues about in Scotland (Fairly beloved is in the central belt). Your ideas for set ups sound a lot better than most.

Maybe the worker was just having a bad day. I hope you'll try again if you feel up to it. :)

Maybe they've had their fingers burned in the past by someone that had more animals than they could manage, it's fairly common. They are just looking out for the buns' best interests, but if you feel you don't have that many animals, maybe you could get a reference from your vet or a rescue you've adopted from previously and ask them to reconsider?

Or, as someone said, look at other rescues.

I think it also would be best to get the accommodation sorted before you adopt, as having everything right will show you are serious and that you are making an informed decision and have thought about how you would manage with them, not an impulse buy. Not that you are, of course, but it helps to present the right image.

Contact Fairly beloved Rabbit care I can assure you that they wont say you have to many pets Say to them Debbie said for you to give them a call..........I havev17 rabbits 3 dogs and 4 cats and 2 tortoises and they rehomed 4 rabbits to me latley so if you dont have as much as me i dont see that as a problem

Fairly beloved are great :) they have lots of buns in at the moment, i have 4 buns from there :)

the web link is in my sig i think

So sorry that you had such a poor response :(

Don't give up - some little bun out there would love to have you for its mum xx

I'm wondering what centre it is as well, I've been to the Lanarkshire and Glasgow centres in the past year and have had to get past them being awkward a few times.

The fact you live in a council flat and have pets already shouldn't have been enough to dismiss you straight off. They've rehomed animals to friends of mine who live in rented accommodation after they provided a letter from their land lord to say it was ok.

When we got our last two rats from them they looked at what we filled in on the "what other pets live in the house" section of the form and decided that we needed a home check (despite having had one in the last year and getting only two tiny snakes since). When the inspectors came over and saw everything they were happy enough that although we had a lot of animals they were all being cared for well.

Unfortunately I think you've been unlucky enough to catch someone on a bad day. Sadly it's this sort of unhelpful attitude that makes folk think "screw this, I'll just go to a pet shop/breeder instead".

Fairly Beloved and Buddies Bunnies are the 2 rescues I have used before. They are sure to give you an ear...

all the best
