  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Is Molly drinking her enough?

She only ever drinks about 50ml of water a day! Sometimes a little less. Doesn't seem like a lot to me? I've tried her with a bowl instead of a bottle but she just tips it over...

all rabbits tend to drink slightly different amounts, young buns don't drink very much at all quite often. If you use a dog bowl I doubt she would be able to tip that over as they are quite heavy. She will drink as much as she needs and it is more worrying when they drink a lot.

Thanks! She's five now so not a young bun anymore but I guess she would drink more if she wanted to as there's always fresh water available. I'll try the dog bowl, thanks for the advice!

Does she eat much veg/fresh foods as they contain water too, meaning she won't drink as much?

As Tonibun said it can vary so, if it's always been normal for her to drink that sort of amount, then I wouldn't be too worried. :D If she's drinking less/more than is normal for her than that can be a sign of problems.
