  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

New kits arrived yesterday!

Hi

We went to our rabbits cage yesterday to find her giving birth. We have read lots online so think we are doing it right but she doesn't seem her self yet, came home today to find she has given birth to a still born. Could there be more in there?
Any tips or ideas would be great :)

There aren't many breeders here to advise, I'd suggest giving your vet a call to see if they can offer some advise over the phone. It's certainly possible for kits to get stuck. In what way isn't she herself?

Is it just the still born kit or are there others?

How old is your bun?

Can you pick her up and feel the rear if her abdomen? If there are more (now dead I'm afraid) kits inside then you will easily feel them.

Did you know she was pregnant? Check the nest as bunnies naturally hide their nest. She will act differently as she will be guarding her best, even if the kits are dead and it will take time for the hormones to die down.

If kindling has gone on for more than 20 mins and she still isn't herself (she should be eating, drinking, trundling around, acting like normal, but with added hormones) then vet, asap.
