  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

What causes so many??

Rupert & Tia

Mama Doe
It seems that bunnies seem to get poorly at the same times - what I mean is, this week, bunnies all over the place seem to be getting poorly - Rupert last night, he's been fine since October, but last night, took himself off, I did the 'pellet test' (rattle the tub), and nothing, he just lay under the table - he came over eventually (when Tia did) then flopped on his side in the corner - typical poorly behaviour, he was lunging at me, grunting, I managed to get him to take metacam and metoclopramide, and he was eating a few pellets, his belly wasn't swollen as much as usual. He has been eating pellets, a bit of hay, but he's just not himself.

I know of at least 3 other rabbits this week with identical symptoms - why does it happen to so many at the same times? Surely, it can't be coincidence, can it? They're all in different parts of the country.... Maybe it is coincidence - maybe so many bunnies have these kinds of issues and its just coincidence that it happens to friends at the same time??

Such a worry!

He's going to the vet tonight to get checked over.
