Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Advice please-Best way to give Flagyl suspension

Loftyfiva

Warren Scout
Hi All,

Fiva is due to start Flagyl twice a day from tomorrow and I was just wondering what is the best way to give this? I put his metacam and Fibreplex on softened pellets so do you think that will work with Flagyl or is he not likely to take it willingly?

Any advice gratefully received x

I syringe it straight into their mouth - as I do with most oral medicines. I don't remember any particular issues with Flagyl. You do need to make sure that they actually get the full dose, however you do it.

Mine willingly take the syringe when offered- I had to force it for a few days and then they realised they like it (I have several on it). It's the easiest med to give, I find.

Thanks both for your replies. Syringe delivered it is then. I just hope he's a little more co-operative than of late x
