  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Looks like im having babies in the next 48 hours...

Got back from taking Mason to the vets to be castrated this morning, went outside to let her out and clean their hutch to find that she has started nesting. Rang my vet and she said she will probably be having babies in the next 24/48 hours...

Im actually quite excited but is there anything different I have to do?

When he gets home from the vets later he'll be put in a separate hutch away from her.

Just give her plenty of hay or soft straw so she has lots for her nest. I would wait now until she has had them because she might start digging and have them in the garden. Once she has them then you can let her out but isn't it very wet where you are?. She might get all her bedding wet. Hope it all goes well and hope Dad recovers quickly.

I don't really let her out when its raining anyway, the hutch they have has a bit at the bottom then can run around in and I have a rain/wind cover for it all so if the weathers bad I left them in with the cover all done up!
He's back home now in a separate hutch recovering, the surgery went fine! I put his carry case by her hutch when he got home and they were both sticking their noses through... hate having them apart!
Hopefully there will be some sign of babies soon, I put loads of hay in for her earlier so I wont have to bother her now, just feed her!
I also picked up a big run today that I can attach to her hutch so she will have plenty of room to run around and I can still let him out in the garden but they wont be able to get to each other!

I am glad his op went well. Do be mindful of the fact that he can remain fertile for 4-6 weeks AFTER neutering. So you will need to be very careful that he does not get to your Doe during that time.
