  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Took Winter to the Vets

She had an abscess drained 2 weeks ago, been on Baytril for 10 days, so I wanted to get an update from the Vet. Thr Vet drained some more pus out, not a lot, and said to re-start her on Baytril and we will carry on managing it if I take her in every 2 weeks. I asked about Dupaphen but she said she would have to ask one of the more experienced Vets about it and will let me know. I told her that some rabbits on the Mainland had done very well on it, so we will see.

Talking to the receptionist she said there weren't any experienced rabbit Vets on the IOW, specialists that is, and we don't even have any specialist horse vets now, they have to come over from the Mainland.

So for now, Winter is fine in herself, has an enormous appetite, so we will just carry on as we are.

As some of you know, she lost her friend Scampi, and I wondered would it be ok to pair her off with someone else or is what she has got infectious?

I've no experience of this, but just wanted to bump it up for you :thumb:

Hope she is feeling better soon, so sorry about scampi  xx
