  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Final year vet student needing your help!

New Kit
Hi guys,
I'm a final year veterinary medicine student at the Royal Veterinary College in London, I'm doing my dissertation on rabbit health, mainly focusing on dental health, as I'm really interested in rabbits and it would seriously help me out if any of you guys have the time to fill out my questionnaire that I have made.
It has been designed to be filled out in pen so just highlight any answers you choose and then please send the completed questionnaire to my email : acoomber@rvc.ac.uk
The link for the questionnaire can be found here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/71055436/Rabbit%20health%20questionnaire.doc
Thanks so much for your help, hope I've posted in the right forum!! :D:D

completed and sent :thumb: is lovely to see a student vet already interested in specialising in bunnies, the world needs all the rabbit-savvy vets we can get!!! x

I'm sorry I can't complete it on my computer
Both my rabbits are unusual having a herb & forage only diet, which includes mainly Brambles & hawthorn on the twig which is also eaten.

Thumper had progressive gi fibrosis (mainly caecum) from M avium homini suis - lived to be 6yrs - monthly dentals for minor spurs to facilitate large food intake & prevent stasis for last 2 years. His diet was 80% grass for the 1st 3 years.

Benjie had disseminated pasturella - forage only diet to reduce dust in nose - now 3, only needed 2 courses of ABX, completely symptom free for last 6 months. No dental disease.

Have you heard of the hypothesis that dental disease can be caused by abnormal caecal bacteria, releasing vaso active toxins, causing root pulp vessels to proliferate, hence accelerated tooth growth?

I don't know whether it's been discredited since I went there.

Cant complete it on the computer and have no idea how to get it off (dont have a printer) sorry.

I underscored my choice answer's, and put a percentage in on questions referring on how much I feed. Then I saved it in word and attached it to the email.

There's most likely an easier way to do it, but that worked for me! :)
