Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rabbit seizures.

I'm looking for some advice outside of my local vets. I have an albino dwarf Netherland rabbit who is almost 5. She has always been in good health until two weeks ago I noticed her eye was watering so we had a trip to the vets. Long story short she had overgrown back teeth and had to get them filed down under anaesthetic and came home with antibiotics.
Last week I noticed she wasn't walking on her front right paw, back to the vets. They told me she had nerve paralysis. She then went on more antibiotics but when she was overnight staying at the vets she had a seizure. The vet told me it was due to stress and to keep an eye on her. In the past 12 hours she has had another two seizures. Could the seizures actually be due to the operation and have caused the nerve paralysis.

So far I have spent £370 on vet bills so naturally I would like a second opinion incase they are going down the wrong route. Any info you can give me would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Has she had any diagnostics ?

Blood tests, skull Xray (looking for signs of tooth root elongation which can lead to brain abscesses) ?

Thank you! I was thinking the same thing because she has been on three different drugs in two weeks. I'm stopping the pain killers I give her now as she is using her foot again fine. I'm going to try her on panacur as someone has advices it could be EC. Fingers crossed, hate seeing my baby like this 😞

No she hasn't. The last time we seen the vet (Friday) they said it was due to stress. She was fine until early this morning at 2.30am she had a seizure and then again at 9am. She has been fine since then. I'm going to request blood tests etc done. Booking an appointment for tomorrow.

Any advice on how to deal with the seizures? I try to be with her as much as possible but I have to work. Will she be ok alone of she has one?

Trying to establish the cause will influence what treatment may be given.

Where does she live when unsupervised ? She will need to be in an environment where there is minimal risk of her hurting herself if she has another seizure.

Is the eye that was 'runny' OK now, not looking as though it is protruding a bit ?

She is an indoor rabbit normally runs free but when I'm not in she is in a wooden hutch. I took all her toys out of her hutch just incase something gets in the way of a seizure. Her eye has all cleared up now. After her teeth situation I have changed her diet to strictly pellets, veg and hay. Before she had muesli, treats, rabbit chocolates etc.

I feel like everything has went down hill since her operation. She is five and has always been healthy, not even a sniffle before this.
