Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Bottom inner part of eye showing

Alpha Buck
Just went up to see Smudge and noticed she has the bottom part of her inner eye showing:

This picture actually doesn't show it sticking out as much as it is, I had to pick her up to take the photo. It is more prominent when she is just running around, resting, etc.

I don't know if this is normal for rabbits to show this bit of the eye, but it isn't normal for her. I'm going to book her in at the vets tomorrow no matter what, but just wondered if anyone had any ideas as to what it might be?

ETA: On second thoughts I think it's drooping:

My bf has now shown me a photo of her last year where her eye is similar, so now I'm not even sure if this isn't just normal :?

It's difficult to say if it's normal, as it's possible it could be for her. She does look to have quite large/out of control ears and that could pull the skin it a slightly odd way too.Does the other side match? Looking nose on, does her face or lip on the side seem to droop at all.

Some things can cause the face to droop on one side eg an ear infection, nerve damage, stroke etc. On the other hand it could be inflammation in the skin around it making it stick out more.

Hi tasmsin, yeah she has always been wonky and her left side doesn't look like her right. Her mouth isn't droopy though.

I'm just not sure whether it's normal, but it's best to go with your gut instinct right?

The fact that I went "oh my god" when I saw it last night must count for something.

She seems happy enough tho, and doesn't mind her face being stroked or rubbed all over.

Think I'll still take her to the vet, they are due their claws clipping anyway!

Yep, go with your gut. I think we often spot issues with buns we know well without being able to pin point exactly what's off, you just know something's a bit out of the norm :)

Just back from the vets, she had a good poke around her eyes!

Her left eye (in the photo) is definitely more pink/swollen than the other, so she has some cream to help bring it down.

Just wanted to post a little update incase anyone comes back to this thread in the future and wants to know outcomes, etc.

We've been using the fucithalmic vet eye drops for nearly a week now, and the weird droopy eyelid issue has gone! :D I don't know if it would have gone away on its own without the drops, but I'm just happy she is better:love:
