Why do you want to neuter your rabbit???

I had this a few wks ago! I even got told 2 entire males go well 2gether ??!!? I have promptly signed all four of my buns up to a new vet. And the male bun in question has been neutered . Its shocking how some vets have this view

same thing seven years ago when i wanted to neuter matthew - german vet eva was quite offended that i would want to do such a thing (I mention that she was german because i wondered if the difference in approach was a cultural thing).

i must admit that matthew grew into such a beautiful, adorable bunny that i was sorry he wouldn't be fathering any babies...siring kits...he's my special boy, not cuddly like charles but very special to me.

Interesting about the German viewpoint. There's a debate on a fb group I'm a member of about not bothering to get does spayed. Apparently it is common to neuter the bucks in Germany but not the does. Its allegedly a conspiracy by vets to make money by neutering does in the UK.

The subject come up with my vet recently - there are serious doubts about the benefits of neutering dogs from a medical point of view which might be why vets vary a lot. He was very sure it was necessary to neuter the female rabbits due to uterine cancer being so very likely but hadn't seen medical reasons to neuter boys as cancers are so much rarer (he sees a lot of rabbits). Of course the argument with boys is that they will pester their female companion or not live well with another male but since all mine are neutered I don't know if it is possible for intact male rabbits to relate to other rabbits without aggression.

Yep, my friend in Germany was told the female didn't need spaying and just to neuter the buck. They just don't advocate it over there.

My vet wasn't against nuetering, however when I mentioned I was planning on bonding him with a neutered rescued doe, they said doe/buck was not the best combination... I had always thought it was??

This was a new vet surgery! I not having luck with vets... the one I first registered with thought it was acceptable to check teeth by feeling the outside of there cheeks  And crappy comunnication (long story). Which leaves one more vet in the town I live. Failing that I will have to go furthur afield. x

I have to travel 20 mins to get to a vet that I actually trust with my buns. There are a few ok vets only a few minutes from me, but that's Vets 4 Pets...and everybody knows their pricing is absolutely extortionate!

dunno whats going on with your vets4pets but it's the cheapest one around here! I travel 20/25mins up the A14 just to get to vets4pets because its half the price of the nearest one

 Seriously!? That's weird. :? They charge about £150 to walk through the door OOH for a bunny.

The surgery is actually The Bridge, but the OOH is Vets4Pets...and they have no idea. The Bridge charge about £42 PER vacc.

My vets charged me about £94 for OOH, including meds. I also paid about £45 for two buns to be vaccinated. :thumb:

I actually wouldn't mind paying more if it was for a vet that specialised in rabbits..but The Bridge and Vets4Pets are just charging that much because they are greedy.

Vets4Pets is the cheapest here too and very good. Jack the rabbit was neutered for £59, Bailey the dog was neutered for £89, Tilly the ***** was spayed for £120.
Plus vaccinations are fab priced and they do a £99 Vac4Life thing.

One of my girls was spayed at 2 years old by the rescue, later than the other females I've had. She's remained quite dominant, nippy and growly with us and other buns and had a malignant uterine tumour removed at the time of her spay. Enough evidence to me that does should be spayed at 6 months.
