  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

My bun occasionally has an episode of watery eye. Its always the same eye, shes been to the vet and was told she has "perfect" teeth, and they gave me some eye drops to try and clear it up. It does come back and is getting more frequent.

Just wanted to hear some past experiences with watery bunny eye and any advice would be awesome :)

just dont want her to be in pain

Has the Vet attempted to flush out the nasolacrimal duct ? Sometimes the duct can become blocked with a plug of pus.

It is elongated tooth *roots* that can cause runny eyes. Elongated tooth roots cannot be diagnosed in any other way than from taking skull Xrays.

Nope no flushing has occured. Just got sent on my way with eye drops. It clears up generally after 2 days. She last had it about a month ago and I checked on her today and its back again :/ if it was root related would it be more long term?

I would query why vet has not attempted flushing of duct. Have they examined duct at all for possible blockage or scarring ?

Nope, literally checked her teeth ruled that out and said she might have something that got trapped in her eye. Then gave me the drops to be on the safe side. Not being horrible to the vet but she was very young and I got the impression she was fresh outta school.

Unless they have a specific interest vets g et very very little training on rabbits. Post a new thread under rabbit chat asking for recommendations for a rabbit savvy vet near your area

Yeh I notice this a lot with vets. I work with animals myself so see it quite a lot. I know theres another vet at the surgery whos really good with her and always helped me out so might request him to take a look at her

:)
