Ok I am getting a little distressed now. Not just sad and worried but actually distressed.
Meg was sent home today. Here is a quick summary
Ultrasound - nothing obviously wrong.
Blood Tests - when she was admitted she had very high kidney and liver readings. Calcium not determined, no white blood cell but she was definitely anaemic. Really low albumin. After her weight had gone up (see below) they tested her again yesterday and her kidney and liver are normal so they think these were due to dehydration, however her white blood cell count was through the floor. Not a specific cell count either, they were all really low apparently.
Weight has gone up since she was admitted on rescue formula and hay and pellets, from 0.9 to a little over a kg. She's a small rabbit, she should probably be around 1.4 I think.
She is eating. Vet said she has been eating her ceacles but there are some hanging around this evening since she's been home. She has been drinking. She is pooing
Vets differential diagnosis is that she either has a gut problem pulling her white blood cells out of her system or she has a tooth problem. X-rays and exams revealed that she has one small spur so they initially ruled it out as the cause but now the vet has an iceburg theory that maybe something else is going on further so he wants to look at her again in a week if she hasn't gained any more weight on her current regime.
Well great but she is home now, she has spent the entire evening sitting really strangely and she is chattering her teeth really bad every time she moves like she's in pain. She has had one dose of Septrin that she was given by the vet in case it is her gut. Could it be that this is a response to the medicine working and she needs a couple more doses so it can start to help? Like a darkest before the dawn kind of situation? She is not on any other medicine.
Do I take her back tomorrow? The vet she's seeing isn't in tomorrow. For those who live in the Cambridge/Suffolk area please PM me if you want to know the vet she is going to. It isn't my local one, she was referred to a 'rabbit specialist' in Cambridge and I won't put the name in a thread but will happily share it in private if anyone might have a better suggestion! Or do I stick it out and see how she does over the next couple of days, since she isn't in any emergent danger (ie eating and drinking and pooing so probably not suffering from anything critical?) You know except the fact she's obviously uncomfortable....
I don't think I actually expect anyone to know the answer, it just helps to get it all down and out you know? Thanks RU
