Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Bobby sneezing :(

luna

Mama Doe
Yesterday morning when Bobby was feeding from his hay rack he had a sneezing fit and it seemed like he got some hay dust in his nose .

I kept an eye on him yesterday and he was fine all day but then had an episode of sneezing last night. This morning he seems fine, is eating okay and was flopped on his bed but did another couple of sneezes there a second ago and is now flopped again. Should I be worried ?

Our vet will be closed for the next few days over Xmas :( but we have baytril here in the house and critical care etc so I am kind of prepared. If it was hay that got up his nose, could that cause irritation for a few days even if it came out ? His eyes and noise are clear of discharge.

Thanks for reading :)

is there any signs of discharge? (just realised you said theres no discharge)

id just keep an eye on him

mabel often does what you describe due to either being so greedy she gets hay tickling her nose or just diving right into it even though its dust free, she has the sneezing fits, but no discharge

Thank you for your reply mini lop1 :) I'm keeping a little log of his behavior and sneezing episodes etc and thankfully there has been no sneezing since yesterday afternoon.

I'm so relieved because Christmas is not the time of year i want to be dealing with sick pets :/ I just don't trust the emergency vets like I would their regular vet who is rabbit savvy.

Happy Christmas :)

Don't worry. Mine sneeze all the time because they shove their noses deep in the hay to be greedy. I'm sure if your bun doesn't have discharge they'll be fine x

Thanks :) I feel more reassured now. I guess I'm a little paranoid knowing my vet will not be available for a few days :/

It's understandable, we all know buns pick the worst times. There will still be emergency vets in your area, but it sounds the same as my three. They'll stick their head into a pile of hay, or climb under it, then look confused when they sneeze!

My Alfie has little sneezing fits, always in the hay box when hes nomming and after he rubs his nose like its itchy! He only does it now and then and otherwise A ok so I put it down to a bit of dusty hay
