Please help me with wire

Is that a good size hole - 1/2 by 1/2 inch

Those are nice small holes, you could consider going for slightly thicker wire if there is a fox issue eg 16g rather than 19g. 19g is standard but 16g is a little thicker. The other option is to double mesh ie put a layer on the inside and outside.

I've had a look but can't seem to find any at a decent price! Soooo expensive.

What about this? It is to go on top of current mesh for added security
