  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Poppy goes to the vets again

So I came back in this morning to find Poppy listless on get she. Wouldn't even lift her head to sniff a crunchie.

No hay eaten again - thought we'd made progress yesterday after I buried banana bits in it she munched quite a lot. Pellets hardly touched and she didn't even finish her alfalfa. Offered a bit of banana and when she refused that and went to hide in her igloo I decided it was worth a trip to the vet.

Thing is there is nothing obviously wrong. Gill had a really good look at her teeth and there is nothing amiss - stomach is empty but no gas and no compaction a or blockages.

She has some metacam and gut stimulant plus CC but how do you treat something you can't see?

Did you mention to Gill that you have noticed Poppy now seems to have a strange odour ?

I forgot that. In my defence that mainly because that seems to have gone away but you're right I should have mentioned it.

Thanks for the reminder - going to phone now and see what she says.

I'm sure she would do much better if she would eat hay, but they just don't listen to us!

HayforPets also do a sample pack of their different hays.
