Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Getting my 2 girls spayed?

KatP

Alpha Buck
I have 2 mini lops and I want to get them spayed, they have just reached 7 months old, the vet said he wouldn't spay them until they were 1.5kg and the smallest of the two has just reached this weight. I'm a bit worried about booking it for the new year incase the weather turns cold as I don't want ( and am not allowed due to landlord) bring them inside. Will it be okay for me to wait until the spring to book them in? I want to get them both done at the same time as they are bonded sisters and I don't want to loose the bond plus this will also mean the small one may be a little but bigger and able to cope with the GA better. Any advice please?

Hi,

I don't know if I'm much help as my little buns are boys so were castrated rather than spayed. They were done at 4 months which was in the warmth of summer.

I don't know how aggressive girls can be, but I spoke to a rabbit rescue centre later as my bunnies bond has been broken with an unexpected fight between them over the weekend so I'm having to sadly consider swapping one for a girl rabbit. Fingers crossed I can get my hands on a spare hutch from someone instead!!! But anyway getting back to the point, she was concerned about the weather for spaying her rabbits. However, from my experience the weather is only going to get worse so you could potentially be waiting until summer now... It might be worth speaking to your vet again and saying that they've reached the weight now but you want advice as to whether they feel its the right time now or not.

Don't know if that was any use or not sorry!!
